This resolution buys less interference from the close-reflections that arrive a short time after the initial, direct path. In the figure above the significant sharpening of the peaks in the IR is highlighted. The tradeoff in this situation is audibility[2]. To compensate for this we use a modified signal that places less energy in the audible frequencies.
